Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP) is a nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) first isolated from cerebral venous blood and named for its early association with delta-wave electroencephalographic (EEG) activity. It is an unusual tool compound because, despite decades of study, its receptor and precise mechanism remain incompletely defined — which is exactly why it continues to appear in neuroendocrine and neurophysiology research.

The peptide's original characterization tied it to slow-wave EEG patterns in animal models.
